St Helier Boat Owners (StHBOA)~ Privacy Policy

The St Helier Boat Owners Association (StHBOA) respects your privacy, and we will only use your information in the way we describe in this notice. When using your information, we aim to be fair, transparent and to follow our obligations under the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018. Your information is used for administering Association membership, maintaining records on boat ownership and moorings, supplying goods and services, and arranging activities for our members.
When contacting and engaging with the StHBOA you will have access to this privacy policy. It is important that you read this privacy notice so that you are fully aware of how and why we are using your data.

We may from time to time update this Privacy Notice, so it is important that you revisit regularly. This privacy notice supplements any other notices and is not intended to override them. This policy was last updated in January 2024.

WHO WE ARE
The St Helier Boat Owners Association was formed in 1990 to represent the interests of owners or part-owners of boats of varying size with, or on the waiting list for, moorings in the Harbours or Marinas of St Helier, and those who launch their craft from the slips therein.
WHAT DATA WE COLLECT
As a member of the SHBOA , or if you are accessing our services we need to collect information from you that may include your personal identity details. The personal details we collect will include your full name, username, maiden name, or similar identifier, title, delivery address, email address and telephone numbers. We may also collect information that you choose to disclose, which is relevant to your membership of the Association, or may be required in order that you may access the services of the Association. Examples may include: boat name and details, where berthed etc.
WHERE AND WHEN WE COLLECT YOUR DATA
We collect your information when you fill in membership application or renewal forms, update boat and mooring detail forms, together with general correspondence with the Association. You can give us your information using paper forms or online forms.
You may give us your Identity, contact and/or financial data by filling in forms or by corresponding with us by post, phone, email or otherwise. This includes personal data you provide when you:
• apply for membership, by email, post or telephone.
• otherwise subscribe to or request our services or publications.
• give us some feedback.
USE OF COOKIES
Cookies provide information regarding the computer used by a visitor. We may use cookies where appropriate to gather information about your computer in order to assist us in improving our website.

FOR WHAT PURPOSES WE USE YOUR PERSONAL DATA
Your information will only be used for the provision of or operation of our services to you as a member of the Association.
We do not share your data beyond what is agreed as necessary for the provision or operation of our services to you. Any third parties we engage to process your personal information are obliged to respect the confidentiality of your information.
There are legal and regulatory circumstances where we may be obliged to share data, for example with Court, Police or Regulator.
THE RIGHT TO BE FORGOTTEN
Under the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 all individuals have the right to have their personal data erased. Individuals can make a request for erasure verbally or in writing and we will respond to this request within one month. The right is not absolute, and our legal obligations supersede above the right to be forgotten. Please note that if you ask for your personal data to be erased, you will no longer be able to access StHBOA

DATA SECURITY
We take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that data is held securely and in accordance with this privacy policy. We have implemented generally accepted standards of technology and operational security to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, improper use or disclosure, unauthorised modification or unlawful destruction or accidental loss.
In the event of any personal data breaches, we will inform those individuals affected without delay.
Destruction process - All personal data is securely destroyed after it has reached the retention period required by law. 
SECURITY PRECAUTIONS AND BREACH POLICY
When you give us personal information, we take steps to ensure that it is treated securely.
In the event of personal data breaches, we will report directly to Information Commissioner of Jersey within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach, where feasible.
HOW LONG WE HOLD YOUR DATA
We will retain your personal data for as long as you are a member of the Association and for as long afterwards to comply with legal obligations.
Destruction process - All personal data is securely destroyed after it has reached the retention period required by law.

You have the right to apply for a copy of the personal data we hold about you and to have any inaccurate personal data about you rectified.
